Compare five alternatives for notes and team docs

Choose a workspace by its storage, deployment and license requirements before moving your notes.

Published · 6 sources

Docmost, Logseq, AppFlowy, AFFiNE and Outline have different storage and licensing choices [1][2][3][4][5]. A public repository alone does not tell you what a production deployment permits.

Decide whether you need a local notebook or a server

Check Logseq's release notes for the edition and storage model you intend to use [2]. For a collaborative server, compare Docmost and AppFlowy Cloud's deployment requirements [1][3]. Start with a copy of your notes before attempting a migration.

Read the license for the component you deploy

AFFiNE's server license separates Community Edition code from Enterprise Edition terms [4]. Outline's license contains an additional-use grant and restrictions on production use [5]. Read the actual license for your version and deployment, especially if you plan to host it for other customers.

Try one documented installation

Docmost recommends Docker and provides a deployment guide with configuration steps [6]. Follow the current guide rather than copying a partial compose command from a caption. Review its application URL, credentials and persistence settings before starting it.

Check that you can export your notes and restore the stored data before moving the working copy. The software choice also leaves you responsible for the server, backups and updates.
