GitHub announced GPT-6.1 Terra in Copilot on October 26, 2026, describing it as an option for everyday coding and terminal tasks. Availability covers Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans. [1]

## Select the model

Open your Copilot model picker and look for GPT-6.1 Terra. GitHub lists VS Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI and other supported surfaces. The announcement says rollout is gradual. [1]

If your organization manages Copilot, check its model policy. Business and Enterprise administrators control model access in Copilot settings. [1]

## Read the full token rate

On November 5, 2026, GitHub's default-tier rates per million tokens are: [2]

- GPT-6.1 Terra: $1 input and $5 output.
- GPT-6.1 Sol: $2 input and $10 output.
- GPT-6 Astra: $10 input and $50 output.

These figures exclude cache read and cache write rates. Long-context tiers also differ. GitHub converts token usage to AI credits at $0.01 per credit; check the linked table before estimating a job. [2]

## Compare it on a scoped task

OpenAI positions Terra around speed, cost and computer-based work. Treat those as the provider's description, then try a small task with clear acceptance criteria in your own repository. [3]

Review the diff and run the project's checks before accepting the result. Compare correctness and total usage on the same task if you try another model.
