Use five built-in Claude Code shortcuts

Inspect context, ask side questions and review changes without installing another plugin.

Published · 1 source

Claude Code includes shortcuts for checking context and working with an active session. These controls come from its interactive-mode documentation. [1]

Inspect the context window

Enter this inside Claude Code. It shows what is using the session's context. [1]

text
/context

Ask a side question

The documented side-question command can run while Claude works. It uses existing context and cannot fetch new files or run tools. [1]

text
/btw what was the name of that config file again?

Paste an image

Copy a screenshot, then use Ctrl+V. The docs list Cmd+V for iTerm2 and Alt+V for Windows and WSL. You should see an image chip in the prompt. [1]

Read shell output in the session

This documented shell-mode example adds the command and its output to the conversation. [1]

text
! git status

Open the rewind controls

Press Esc twice or enter /rewind to review an earlier point. Inspect the available choices before restoring changes. [1]

Use the control for the task at hand; none needs another plugin.
